Jadeite and Kiwi Calcite Earrings
I found these dark green beads, and the smaller light green beads, and was intrigued with the colors and patterns in them.
I finally decided on this simple design, which shows off the colors the best.
The two stones are in the Jade and the Calcite families.
The larger stone is actually a Chloromelanite Jade, which are stones that contain Jadeite Albite, Feldspar, and other minerals that give these stones their deep green, with dark green to black veins.
The smaller stones are Kiwi Calcite, the Kiwi name comes from their green hue and dark green to black spots, not unlike a Kiwi egg.
Calcite is formed in the earth over millions of years of steady water build up layer by layer, and then it crystallizes, due to heat and pressure to become the stone you see today.
These earrings are made using a gold ball headpin, a jade bead, a calcite bead, two gold plated beads, and a golden earwire.

Calcite – 10mm x 8mm flat oval
Drop – 1 1/2”
Total drop – 2”
